This range is a specific microbial formulation of bacillus strains that will eliminate excessive ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, phosphates, urea, fecal matter and dead organic waste in open ponds and closed aquatic systems.

It is formulated to act as an extremely effective probiotic that combats a wide range of aquatic pathogens and diseases such as: streptococcus, pseudomonas, aeromonas, vibrio and burkholderia.
The result is much healthier, bigger fish, larger yields and lower death rates.

The product is formulated to operate at three levels.

Bio8   As a Waste Degrader – Selected microbes will decompose and digest the sludge that builds up on the bottom of the aquaculture ponds due to unconsumed fish food, fecal waste and fish mortality. It restores pond aesthetics and the ecological balance without the use of mechanical dredging. The microbes are strictly saprophytic and digest only non-living materials.
Bio8 Ammonia control – A negative aspect of high density fish farming is the lethal build up of ammonia. It contains selected microbes that accelerate the nitrification and conversion of ammonia in open and closed recirculation ponds.

Probiotic action – The probiotic bacteria present “out compete” the pathogens found in the aquatic environment or produce substances that inhibit their growth thereby preventing disease outbreaks and improving the ecological environment for aquaculture.

In order to achieve the best results, the following point should be taken into consideration.

Bio8 PPM of dissolved O2 - We recommend at least 2ppm or more. This may be achieved by natural or mechanical aeration techniques. As a rule of thumb power aeration is always recommended. Decomposition rates are up to 5 times faster in the presence of sufficient oxygen. Aeration will allow higher and faster success rates.
Bio8 Temperature – Optimum temperature is between 15 and 30 degrees centigrade. If the water temperature drops below 10oC then the organisms will become less active. Nitrification of ammonia also slows during colder weather. Remember that temperature will vary depending on the depth of the water body.
Bio8 pH – the optimum pH range is between 6.5 and 9.0.
Bio8 Retention Time – An estimation of the inflow and outflow to the pond will give an indication of the retention time. If the water body looses 5 - 10% of the total volume per day then no problem exists but if the loss is greater than 30% then the dosing program may need to be adjusted to deal with this situation.
Bio8 Heavy Metals – These should be below 2ppm. Cyanide, fluorides and phenols will have an impact on the micro organisms.
Bio8 Fish Density – The number of fish per m3 of system water will impact dosage rates. The rate may also need to be adjusted as the animals grow and the quantity of waste material increases.
Bio8 Pond Stocking – The addition of large quantities of fish to a new water body may cause a spike in ammonia levels. This in turn will inhibit the transfer of O2 in the gills of the fish and may cause long term gill damage. It is therefore recommended that a ‘seeding dose’ of product is added to the pond 3 days before stocking to ensure a sufficient biomass is built up prior to the loading.
Bio8 Filtration – Ensure that the product is not dosed near the filter suction inlet to prevent blockage of the filter media.
Bio8 Uncontrollable variables – In the rainy season, runoff from the surrounding fields may increase nutrient loading from fertilizers requiring adjustments to the dosing regime.
